Mandala

MandalaMandala is an ever-changing group of musicians who have been playing together for a while (we don't know how long, exactly). At the root of Mandala's sound is didgeridoo master and craftsman Allan Shockley. Guitarist Don Reeve joined three years ago, after being a frequent per former at Allan Shockley's Dreamtime Didgeridoo Party. The rest of the band members are relatively new. They added drummer Mike Vercelli last summer, and vocalist Meg Cavendish in February. Bassist Rich Waryan completed the lineup in April.

It is hard to pin the group's sound to any one genre, as the music is always changing. From psychedelic jams to Celtic ballads to reggae rockers, Mandala weaves a variety of influences into its musical tapestry.

Shockley is well known for the didgeridoos he fashions from the agave stalk. He has appeared on many recordings. Reeve has been a regular on the Tucson music scene for years, as Neon Prophet's first guitarist and flute player for the Indian raga band Shruti. Cavendish was a founding member of Morrighan, and most recently played with the Irish folk duo Hooley. Vercelli is a veteran of the Cleveland music scene, and Waryan is originally from Minneapolis and is a professional studio musician. He has played with many local bands on lots of recordings.

Reeve writes most of Mandala's original material, but the group has recently added Led Zeppelin, Jefferson Airplane, and Pink Floyd covers, just for fun.
